    • Rowett Research Institute

      Dec 2004 - Dec 2006
Contracts Officer for EU Research Projects

I was in the position to manage, arrange and oversee - initially 2, later 4 - individual, international multidisciplinary research projects. The main project was to focus and select a handful of plant species from over 500, which would then be tested to be the best "helper" for metabolic digestion in bovine animals. I personally took part in both the plant preparation and in the writing up the report to Brussels. Contracts administration demanded strict management of the budget as well as the preparation and presentation of the results and reports to deadlines. It was a good job, I should have liked to take it further and to develop into a time-served Contracts Administrator, however, various factors and circumstances denied the opportunities. Show less

    • Aberdeenshire Council - I.S. Waste Management

      Mar 2006 - now

I am an Environment Monitoring Officer (EMO) within the Council's waste management - disposal section. Work is about environmental compliance and it involves landfill sites monitoring - sampling groundwater, surface water, landfill gas - and reporting to SEPA on monthly, quarterly and annual bases. Monitor our leachate treatment plant operation and when required, I operate it too. I also help out in updating various Council sites' and depots working plans and creating, modifying or surrendering their licences respectively for the up-coming changes at the Council's waste transfer stations. I deal with procurement of materials to a few processes and maintenance contracts i.e., leachate water treatment plant caustic soda, test kits, as well as the electricians and landfill gas flare contractors. I analyse lab results and write up reports and review long term data. Show less
