About the company: Statewide mental health organization providing care for 300K inpatient and ambulatory visits annually across 38 locations. Maine Behavioral Healthcare was acquired by MaineHealth in late 2019. Today, I lead a four-person team driving excellence across risk management, patient safety, quality improvement, regulatory compliance, accreditation, litigation support, and public data reporting on patient safety and patient experience.I also serve as the:► Corporate compliance officer (CCO) for MBH► Risk manager for Spring Harbor Hospital► Patient safety officer for Spring Harbor HospitalFor nearly two years of my tenure in this role, I have acted as the functional VP for the Quality Department by assuming additional responsibilities and reporting directly to C-level leadership including the CMO and CNO. KEY ACHIEVEMENTS:► Elevating quality management team engagement and experiencing near-zero employee turnover. ► Driving licensing and accreditation for the hospital, nine residential facilities, 20+ community-based mental health locations, and several substance use treatment locations by liaising with The Joint Commission (TJC) and DHHS.► Achieving 41.5% lower citations (RFIs) by TJC than the national average and zero conditional-level findings during our 2018 accreditation visit. ► Launching the first-ever AHRQ Culture of Safety Survey for ambulatory services to measure quality and foster continuous improvement for our community-focused services.► Leading all MBH-related functions to launch an electronic incident reporting system across MaineHealth. ► Decreased the time to complete conflict of interest reporting from eight months to just 30 days.Committee Memberships Include:►Chair of the MBH Corporate Compliance Committee►Member of the MBH Board of Trustees Behavioral Health Advisory Board►Member of the MBH Board of Trustees Quality Excellence Committee►Member of the MaineHealth Quality and Safety Operations Team Show less I initially joined MBH to serve as the primary contact for patients and families with grievances and concerns related to Spring Harbor Hospital (SHH) and the Department of Psychiatry for Maine Medical Center (MMC). In this role, I maintained compliance with regulatory and accreditation requirements for The Joint Commission and collaborated with DHHS for on-site investigations. I also:► Led investigations and prepared formal responses regarding patient and family grievances.► Served as the subject matter expert for senior leaders and the Legal Department and delivered presentations and training for community groups and clinical/non-clinical hospital staff on patient’s rights, regulations, and laws related to behavioral health.► Mitigated the hospital’s risk exposure by researching risk-related incidents to identify opportunities for improvement and compliance across operations and policies.During this time, I earned recognition by the legal department / corporate counsel for decreasing the number of grievances that escalated to Level III appeal or litigation through excellence in proactive service delivery.
