PhD Researcher in Sexual Conflict and Sexual Selection in the Indian Meal Moth

I was a NERC funded early-career researcher at the Centre of Ecology and Conservation, Cornwall Campus with the University of Exeter. My research focussed on sexual conflict and sexual selection, both pre- and post-copulatory. Sexual conflict arises due to the conflicting interest of males and females in reproductive investment, and is a powerful evolutionary force. Using experimental evolution, I altered the adult mating sex ratio to either male biased or female biased. This changes the selective forces between populations that may directly impact on sexual conflict and sexual selection. • European Meeting of Ph.D Students in Evolutionary Biology (EMPSEB 19)

      Oct 2012 - Aug 2013
      Treasurer

I aided in organising the 19th European Meeting of PhD Students in Evolutionary Biology (EMPSEB), an international and student-led conference for PhD students. As Treasurer, I managed the budget (£50k) for this conference in its entirety. As well as gaining experience of large event management, I ensured varying projects were complete within their allocated budgets. Supporting the President and Vice-President, regular meetings were conducted to keep on top of expenditure. I worked alongside the University of Exeter finance team to open and maintain a bank account, keeping track of all payments and withdrawals. All vendors were invoiced and paid in line with contractual agreements. I also aided in grant applications to source new routes of sponsorship for the conference. Finally, I produced a report for the main sponsors of the conference, to allow complete visibility into the expenditure after EMPSEB ended. Show less
