Experience

Alberta Place Hotel - North America
Mar 1994 - Dec 1994Client Services - Evening SupervisorI held this full-time position and attended university full-time. In this position I managed/delegated responsibilities on evening shifts in a 110 apartment-suite style hotel, which included many long-term guests. I developed and initiated very successful promotional strategies (i.e. print, billboard, direct-mail, walk-in traffic, etc.). I was promoted by the CEO of the parent company to work at William's Electronics, an affiliate company, in the technology sector.

Freelance
Jan 1995 - Jan 1999Strategic Business and Marketing ConsultantWhile in university full-time I worked full-time providing strategic business planning for companies in the $1M - $50M per annum market segment. These included: start-ups, companies in major expansion phase, and I provided key recommendations and solutions to National companies and NGO's in financial difficulty to turn their operations back to being profitable. On one very successful project for one NGO client, where one branch was being carried financially by other branches, I provided a report of 57 recommendations designed to resolve their financial instability within one year. This report generated such optimism that the client in turn used this as a template for the more than 250 branches across the country, as a means to further expand, and grow their operations, by mirroring these successful business strategies at each of those branches. As part of this work I was often required to do a number of things depending on the situation and needs of the client. Some of these included: formal business plans, needs assessments, developed job descriptions, negotiated contracts, conducted customer surveys, usage frequency, including intensity and loyalty, focus groups, competitive analysis, and demographic/psychographic analysis. I also focused on Sales, marketing, and training development, including writing technical documentation and developing training materials for a wireless company with leading-edge patents and technology. When needed I looked at their information management systems and gave recommendations to optimize those systems. Jan 1995 - Aug 1995Assistant to Training ManagerWhile in full-time university studies and working full-time I was promoted by the CEO of an affiliate company (parent company of Alberta Place Hotel) to assist in creating a training department for wireless technology products, with worldwide patents. Primary focus at that time was building expertise with South Korean affiliates, designing training and sales modules for visiting South Korean executives who would in turn take that training back to their departments in South Korea.

Mar 1999 - Apr 2001Litigation SupportProvided document management expertise, worked with the Deponent, and provided international expert witness research support, on the largest environmental damages case in North American history, at the time, with 18 parties and $100M in damages. This case involved 6 actions and @70,000 produced documents. The research documents comprised another several thousand.

Indian Northern Affairs Canada - Litigation Management Resolution Branch
Apr 2001 - May 2011Senior Litigation Research and Technical Consultant - Aboriginal LawHeld contract with this government agency, and worked on a continual F/T basis for 10 years, providing factual research services with the highest level of integrity in this complex and ever-changing area of law. Senior level historical/legal research analyses on Canadian precedent-setting aboriginal law litigations involving a wide-range of issues, for BC/AB/SK, Yukon, NWT, (i.e. factual component for SOD, research for preparing Motions, provided information on Agreed Statement of Fact, E4 Discovery, Trial brief factual analysis, aboriginal rights/title, land claims, self-government, constitutional issues, policy, cultural practices, genealogy, oil/gas, environmental damages, western Canadian treaties, etc.). Managed and directed, for the client, large virtual and local teams, (largest team was 22 researchers across Canada). With tight timelines until trial, this required very creative solutions to working with the same materials as many projects overlapped with issues, and not everything was electronically available. Prepared extensive 2 year workplans, led trial teams, provided expertise on cost-effective means to manage mega document-driven files, (i.e. 100,000 + documents) including electronic evidence management and e-trials.Wrote and developed the DOJ/INAC Summation/Ringtail Standard Document Database Protocol - National Protocol for DOJ Aboriginal Law Section and INAC. This protocol serves as a template for all Federal Aboriginal litigations in the country for managing their documentary evidence. There are presently several thousand cases, and new cases are being filed continually using this protocol.Developed a Summation Trial Prep project-based database for a very large precedent-setting e-trial - 1.5 years - evidence connected for analysis - this case was a Retrial, all original and retrial evidence was relevant and able to be utilized (i.e. one component had over 2,500 undertakings/interrogatories with +5,000 supporting documents).
