      Masters of Research Anthropology High Distinction

      Masters included one year of coursework and placements, as well as one year of fieldwork to be completed with a final written thesis. The second year included a year of ethnographic research into decolonising and decentralised yoga practice by Islamic asylum seekers in Moria refugee camp in Greece, and refugees in Jordan, Germany and Sydney. For this research, I was awarded the Ian Bedford Best Thesis Award.

      Conducted research into institutionalised girls’ experience of place, belonging and identity following physical and psychological abuse at the Parramatta Girls Home/Female Factory. The Parramatta Girls Home functioned as a school for convict women and later young girls who had been abandoned, neglected or committed minor offences during the 1880s-1980s. The research explored secondary data, including graffiti markings, self harm scars and autobiographies, to consider the impact of these institution on placemaking and identity. Show less
