      Student Intern - Blockchain Analysis

I participated in a course that taught me a good understanding of blockchains, cryptocurrency and smart contracts. After the course was completed, I was given the opportunity to analyze the decentralised application "Uniswap", which is an Ethereum-token (ERC-20) exchange that was built on the Ethereum protocol. From this, a better understanding of the functioning of a blockchain and decentralised exchanges (DEX) was formulated. I was exposed to how opportunities using a blockchain are vast and powerful, and the advantages and disadvantages to using these new technologies became clearer. The analysis was conducted to target the potential advantages and risks of using Uniswap within a business context. Jul 2023 - now

I worked with Dr Werner Badenhorst and other evaluators in grading and evaluating the practicals of third year students in the module ERD320 - Computer engineering design. This involved having students demonstrate what they have designed and built for a practical that was outlined by the lecturer and assistant lecturers. Thereafter, I would grade them according to whether they met the requirements of the practical and whether they understood what they had done. Advice would be given to students to increase their success in later practicals. Show less

I worked with Wouter van Wyk, a senior systems software engineer, in upgrading a simulator used for testing a commonly used and altered wireless communication protocol. The upgrades involved creating a long-term and versatile solution that can be used via the terminal and alongside a microcontroller. Thereafter, I created a PyQt user-interface that links to the simulator (which was created in C in the microchip IDE). Summer School 2024 Attendee

I had the opportunity to attend the FirstRand Summer School of 2024. The group consisted of students of various degrees from all over South Africa, and was split into two types of attendee: the Quants group (which I was part of, as a Computer Engineering student) and the Charted Accounting group. Our days were very busy, consisting of watching talks, executing projects and plenty of networking. I was part of two groups: the social group (a mix of CAs and quants students, all seen in the attached photo) and the quants group. My social group and I enjoyed various activities together. One of our favourites was "the share game" where we would "invest" in shares throughout the week. Although our share choices had our ups and downs, it was a lot of fun discussing various companies and deciding on what we chose for that day.My quants group and I ("Top Model") created a model to try help solve Mule Accounts which are a common problem found within a banking context. We decided on a Neural Network (using Python) and worked on it for many hours before breakfast and after dinner. On the last day of the program, we presented to our fellow Summer School attendees as well as a judging panel. Show less
