With over 90% dependency on biomass for Cooking in Uganda, I have led the development of two different project proposals towards the transition to electricity cooking (E-cooking) in Uganda with the following achievements so far. • Completed the development of a pilot project for E-cooking in Uganda and completed the recruitment of implementation and funding partners. • Financing for the pilot proposal for E-cooking has now been committed by an international funder, for implementation for a period of 2 years. • EPC technical specifications have been completed to support quality control and procurement for the pilot. • I also led the development of sector scale up program proposal which has now been taken on by different critical stakeholders for further development and financing. • An initial sector stakeholder engagement already concluded, providing critical program process input. Key stakeholders include MECS, ERA, MEMD, Umeme, Energrow, GIZ, and other players in the energy sector. • Financing mechanism options being developed with Key stakeholders, including government departments, financing institutions, and development partners. Show less Pamoja project aims at creating shared value initiatives in slum communities to create mutually beneficial relationships to evolve the way the utility does business in such vulnerable communities. It aims at improving electricity safety, bringing down commercial losses, easing the customer connection process, and bringing services closer to the customer. Working with community leaders, and building partnerships, we seek to implement viable initiatives that benefit the community and improve livelihoods. Working with interdepartmental teams as the project lead, the following have already been achieved. • Created over 5 partnerships with existing institutions working in or close to the community to complement Umeme's effort to improve project design, execution, and acceptance by the stakeholders. These include the College of Engineering at Makerere University (CEDAT), The Directorate of Industrial Training (DIT), The Food Technology Incubation Centre Under Makerere University (FTBIC), Act Together, UYDEL among others. • Identified and supported the registration of several community-based artisans to support the project as trainers of different self employable skills. • Completed the identification, design, and approval of pilot project initiatives , including food entrepreneurship training, retraining of internal wiring technicians, installation of street lighting in dark spots in the targeted slum communities, among others. Implementation of all these initiatives is ongoing. • Completed the mapping and creation of new connection readiness matrix for the project area to support further initiatives towards easing acquisition of safe connections. • Completed the identification of beneficiaries for the initiatives, recruitment of local community representatives to support as project champions and ease project acceptance. Show less Utilities 2.0 Project: Umeme Ltd and other partnersA multi-Partner Project whose goal is to find faster and cost-effective ways of accelerating universal access to clean energy by integrating the strengths of centralized Utilities like Umeme Ltd with decentralized renewable energy partners (solar mini-grids and appliance financiers). The project is also testing the impact of Appliance Financing on improving livelihoods and stimulating electricity demand. Project Partners include Umeme, Power for All, Equatorial Power, Makerere University, East African Power, Clasp, Energrow, among othersWorking with partners, I have led Umeme’s effort on the project to • Identify and scope out hybrid solar minigrid project sites, carry out baseline studies, form implementation partnerships and agreements and lead collaborative working groups.• Align metering and low voltage network project standards with the grid standard to allow seamless integration at grid reach.• Support creation of Partner framework agreements to support project implementation. • Led the development of the project Low voltage network infrastructure on the grid standards to allow future grid integration. • Led the Umeme effort in supporting the project with existing backend support systems for billing, vending and customer management. • Supporting the process of acquisition of the required regulatory license for commercialization of the project. • Project commissioning and customer acquisition. The project has already connected 95% of the targeted community. • Government departmental and local area stakeholder engagements during implementation and after commissioning. Show less • Set up of the new Naalya branch service centre in a high-end customer priority geographical zone. • Responsible for the creation of the service centre’s customer positioning within the company • Piloting cashless business activity for the company at the branch to support the overall company transition to a cashless business. • Business management activities including safety improvement, revenue collection and commercial loss reduction performance. • Stakeholder management • Human Resources and general staff administration for the service centre. • Management of new customer on-boarding processes.
