  Mechanical Engineer Intern

  The internship was structured in two parts. The first focused on a monographic study of the ISWEC (Inertial Sea Wave Energy Converter), a wave energy device developed by Wave For Energy and installed in Pantelleria. The second part involved analyzing the marine resource, specifically wave motion, sea currents, and wind conditions.

  Main research topics:• Floating offshore wind: numerical modelling of floating Vertical Axis Wind Turbines (VAWTs); design and optimization of floating foundations; wake losses estimation; techno-economic analysis;• Offshore wind potential: resource assessment of wind and wave resource; technical and logistic constraints definition; identification of bottom-fixed and floating wind potential; productivity estimation; analysis of aerodynamic wake losses; techno-economic analysis; The research scholarship, entitled "Structural Analysis of Floating Offshore Structures", focused on the design and optimization of floating offshore wind foundations for the Mediterranean Sea, taking into account techno-economic constraints as well as wind and wave conditions.

  Visiting Researcher

  The research, carried out in collaboration with the Strathclyde Floating Wind Research Group and supervised by Prof. Maurizio Collu, involved the implementation of two wake models to assess aerodynamic losses in wind farms. It also focused on comparing different numerical models (Most, FloVAWT, and QBlade) for the analysis of floating VAWTs.
