  District Math Administrator, LAUSD | 2001 – 2007 • Inherited a fledgling secondary math team and program with only four ineffective math coaches/members not performing at adequate levels for curriculum or student achievement. Created and implemented a vision for rigorous teaching and learning in mathematics in collaboration with stakeholders including teachers and parents of over 15 secondary schools.• Recruited the two top math teachers at all of the fifteen secondary schools in the Local District and grew the team to over 35 fulltime math coaches that met with me over twice a month for over five years. • Planned, implemented, and facilitated six full days of engaging and rigorous professional development for 250 math teachers for five years in a row.• Implemented a high level engaging and rigorous curriculum in all fifteen schools – became the third highest achieving local district in LAUSD – recognized by the District Office as the leader in training and curriculum.• Turned around a Local District with a priority of reading and writing instruction, with little time or effort put into improving math instruction – became the third highest achieving Local District in LAUSD.• Led and facilitated math trainings and professional developments monthly for principals and administrators for three years, as well as bimonthly math trainings and professional development for math coaches for seven years.• Math instruction and increasing math achievement became the number one priority of the Local District, and.   Youth Minister / Community Organizer, Inner City Ministry, Highland Park Faith United Presbyterian Church | 1985 – 1992 • Leadership role transforming a portion of city with the gospel through prayer, evangelism and discipleship. Elevated an aging church into a vibrant community center.• Founded an inner-city ministry by living with five other Occidental Inter-Varsity College Graduates, replacing the fundraiser and leader after he left the ministry and moved out of state.• Established leadership with vision and work in and about the community of Highland Park; prayed daily for seven years to see God convert and disciple people in the neighborhood and community; found a job at the local high school and worked there off and on for the next thirteen years. • Partnered with a local church to do ministry in the neighborhood; became the youth minister at the local church • Networked with people in the neighborhood and community at large, including local colleges with Inter-Varsity chapters; over a hundred college graduates came to live, work and minister in the neighborhood and community and church. • Built the youth group into a multigenerational, multiethnic group of over 130. • Grew a church of mostly retired adults into a multigenerational, multiethnic church. Led the school from the bottom to the top of the district rankings in the five major district categories and goals: state test scores, grades, attendance, reading scores, discipline rates. Named a Gold Ribbon School 2009 – 2019. • Facilitated and implemented a school wide vision, mission, and strategic plan to turn around low student achievement. • Formed, professional learning communities to research and implement strategies to engage students in rigorous learning. • Researched, piloted and implemented successful school wide programs and strategies that eventually became district wide programs and strategies such as Thinking Maps, Achieve 3000, PBIS - Positive Behavior Intervention Support Program, Saturday Academy, and a schoolwide intervention period.• In four to five years our school became the highest performing school in the district in the five major categories of State Test scores, grades, attendance, reading scores, and discipline. • Remained at the top achieving school in the district for five straight years; ELA CAASPP scores were raised over 50%, and average grades for students was up 85%. • Average yearly attendance was 97-98%; students gained on average four years of Lexile growth each year, going from having 250 suspensions a year to very few.
