Project title: Inverse Reinforcement Learning for Sepsis treatmentSupervisor: Assistant Professor Vaibhav RajanThe project explores the use of Inverse Reinforcement Learning techniques in healthcare, particularly for Sepsis treatment. Inverse Reinforcement Learning can be used to uncover clinical insights in the following 2 areas: • Recover reward weights that would best explain optimal clinical trajectories. As there are multiple conflicting objectives that clinician's seek to optimise for, inverse reinforcement learning can help to quantify the relative importance that each feature plays in determining patient outcome. • Identify patient heterogeneity by clustering patients who are treated similarly into one cluster. Treatment of patients within clusters can be explained by a particular reward function. We seek to uncover the similarities and differences between patients treated within and between clusters. My tasks in this project involved • Formulating the Sepsis treatment problem as a Markov Decision Process and implementing Inverse Reinforcement Learning algorithms from the literature such as Apprenticeship Learning and a Bayesian approach to multi-task learning of different reward functions.• Applying the algorithms at scale by implementing caching optimisations during MCMC sampling of reward weights.Final Grade: A+ Show less

      Research Engineer

Project: Digitising the dementia screening which is traditionally administered using pen and paper and manually graded. I was involved the design and development of an algorithm which automatically grades participant's drawings of clocks on IOS Ipad application. The tasks that I have completed in this project include• Design and implementation of a grading algorithm for user clock drawings that combines an object detection pipeline with rule based features. • Deployment of the algorithm and model into IOS application to validate the usability and proof of concept of the algorithm.• Reviewed object detection literature and experimented with implementing various tricks to achieve a strong model detection baseline.
