Initially based in Colchester from March 1995, I joined the internal Management training scheme in November 1996, this allowed me to progress through the ranks of the organisation and provided me with ongoing training and support. My various positions and responsibilities are detailed below.

Jan 1996 - Jan 1997Unit finance controllerMy responsibilities included counting the daily takings of the centre, inputting and upholding till controls and all relevant paperwork. I completed manual payroll for up to 50 weekly paid staff, petty cash reconciliation and all banking. I also produced daily revenue analysis and year on year comparison. In addition I was directly responsible for the line maintenance of 20 various amusement machines.END

If there were any anomalies I would report these to the Head of Finance who would investigate the matter further with the Centre Manager. I was also jointly responsible for preparing the monthly management accounts report for the golf centres including reconciliation, accruals and prepayments in order for the Head of Finance to collate and present to the board.I was responsible for the processing of sales invoices and for chasing payments including setting up credit agreements and maintaining contracts. I was the contact for any sales queries for all staff and would check all of the forms prior to sending invoices. I completed the monthly VAT reconciliation in order for the Head of Finance to make the necessary declarations. When we had unscheduled visits from HMRC I liaised with the officers to provide the necessary information and documentation. Show less

There were tight deadlines for the production of the management accounts so I would work late when needed in order to meet the deadlines given.I regularly assisted in the preparation of insightful commentaries on performance, covering variances, cost forecasts, risks and opportunities which would be sent out to various Golf Centre Managers within the company to enable to them to make more informed decisions.
