  Some advance in technology that seem to have been dramatic had little effect on the growth of GDP or living standards from year to year. In other words, the pace of change was not transformative. Now we come to AI. The initial development of AI has already affected several niche areas dramatically, but it now looks set to affect just about all part of the economy. Moreover, in marked contrast to Gordon's characterization of the essence of the third industrial revolution, what happens here, in what is widely referred to as the fourth industrial, most definitely does promise to conform to the normal pattern of technological advance throughout our industrial history, namely the replacement of human labor by machines. This project promises to be a return to normal with a vengeance. This project will surely not be of little economic importance, as Gordon alleges for computers and the digital revolution. Show less
