I consulted in the position of Database Architect for a large document management provider to enhance system performance, upgrade the necessary system components, and establish a better structure and plan for the company's system manageability. The NT environment was originally composed of around 80 NT servers, over 100 Microsoft SQL Servers, several Oracle Servers, and 6 major web and client-server applications. There were approximately 1000 users of the environment. I separated the company's systems into either web servers, application servers, or data servers by moving applications onto and off of machines specific to its function and load. I was then able to load balance the system work within each functional area to provide better system response time and system resource usage. I redesigned the MS SQL data server environment to condense 115 MS SQL databases across 45 dataservers into three production-staging environments to support development, certification, and production. Persistence/Data Architect

Redesigned a relational database system supporting a three-tier application to support a new Object Oriented application architecture. Analyzed all backend systems and data access points to identify which areas could be reused to decrease the project’s scope and timeframe during the rearchitecture. Responsible for planning and migrating over 1000 customers and 200 vendors with nearly 85,000 total users using a combination of SQL migration scripts and Microsoft DTS packages

    • LexisNexis

      Aug 2003 - Feb 2008
      Sr. System Engineer

My primary role is Technical Lead for development group. I work with the customers, management, and the data team to determine resourcing levels and project size estimates. My responsibilities include architecture, development, and maintenance of over a 16 terabyte MSSQL data system to track the world's companies and their executives. The system dynamically parses data from 46 live XML and VISF data sources and matches those documents to either a company or an executive. The application has grown from 30,000 companies with 1000 executives to its current 45 million companines and 58 million executives. The application currently tracks over 8 billion attributes on those companies. I improved system reliability from 94% to over 99.8% and created a variety of search algorithms to decrease average search times from 15 seconds down to 2 seconds. Show less

I am the tech lead/solutions architect for several projects that use 3rd party and in-house natural language processors. In this role, I gather product requirements and lead the teams with the technical approaches that build machine learning extraction routines to extract entities and their relationships from millions of news and legal documents an hour. I helped design and build the big data (high performance compute cluster) repository to store and manipulate the trillions of tuples generated from this process. The entities and relationships are then used to enrich the content for our flagship product. Other algorithms I have designed create “inferences” from a cluster of entities to give more confidence to the recall and precision (f-score) of the extractions. The result is then used to reduce noise in the data created by false positives.I worked with the global sales and marketing groups to consolidate all global data into a single mastered data system. The system increased the reliability, reporting, and data analytics of contact information, purchase history, organization financials. The system decreased marketing’s campaign management list generation from a couple weeks to under an hour. Additionally, the data mart provides a much more accurate and robust picture of the company's prospect analytics with new products.I helped design and implement an automated high performance computing cluster solution to extract and resolve entities from billions of news and legal documents. The system has identified, for each of the 10 major entities, over a 100 million mentions each producing several trillion relationship triples. These triples provide the foundation for new analytical products in our company. The system is considered one of the more innovative advancements for our company and provides the data for our flagship product. The new system opened up additional entity search and profiling across the billions of documents managed by the company. Show less

In this role I contribute more to the strategies around improving member care, identifying potential QAI opportunities, and clinical authorization decisioning improvements. I and my team will continue to enhance our clinical data store and analytical visualization with a goal of providing guidance for appropriate authorization decisioning. My team is expanding our clinical and claims azure data store with new data to provide a greater breadth and depth to our analytics and visualizations. We have added Milliman Care Guideline data, specific clinical decisioning metadata, and initial dashboards around authorization decisioning. This data allows analysts to drill through data on specific provider requests, guideline usage, procedure code utilization, clinical decisioning, and appeal rates. The informatics process my team provides then give guidance in areas where efficiencies can be applied to improve decisioning and drive down overhead.I and my team are currently expanding our metadata around our clinical vendors to augment our current vendor analytics. The first few iterations of this information is helping with vendor oversight and vendor SLA refinements. The new data will expand our current reporting capabilities to compare staff and vendor accuracy and productivity. Show less In this role, I lead the clinical analytics and data solution teams specifically around Utilization Management and Care Management. I designed and led the implementation team for our Clinical (UM/CM) data lake within Azure as we migrated for our existing MS SQL environment. The new system ingests multiple sources of clinical data from Utilization/Care Management systems, Emergency Medical Records, Health Information Exchange data, and Social Determinant of Health sources into a single model. The datamart layer I built on top of the data lake provides a consistent single source of information for data analysis, regulatory reporting, and data visualization. The new Clinical Data Store works in tandem with the data lake's Claims Data Store to allow claims lookback into the authorized services driving those claims. The data store model simplifies data in such a way to decrease the time for the ingestion of new clinical systems and markets. Additionally, I and my team provide subject matter expertise on the clinical data and processes across our analytics, visualizations, and reporting teams. We provide clinical process flows, database models, and data dictionaries to help people understand where the data came from and how it can be used. My team also produces multiple dashboards and analytics for leadership around turn-around times, approval rates, readmissions, member and provider utilizations, authorization life cycles, and staff productivity. I and my team partner consistently with the Clinical, Claims, Regulatory, and Data Governance teams to ensure new policies and guidelines are applied to our data before they are required by the governing bodies.
