Over the course of the season I worked closely with colleagues and also individually to complete designated tasks to high standards and strict time-frames, with my skill-set and employers trust demonstrated best by a promotion to potato harvester operator, with the responsibility of harvesting thousands of pounds worth of produce daily.   With a short gap in my studies, I took the opportunity to further develop my experience and knowledge of high-input dairy enterprises by joining the McCollum family of Bellemont Farms Ltd. Operating under the Bellemont prefix, the herd is home to 300 pedigree Holsteins, and was recognised as a Master Breeder in 2018 having produced multiple top AI sires, including the highly acclaimed Bellemont PERKS ET. During my time with the Bellemont herd I assisted with the day-to-day management of 6 newly installed Lely A5 robots, which has been of particular benefit when offering practical advice and support to robot customers in my current position with Chestnutt Animal Feeds. Other daily responsibilities included general animal husbandry, calf rearing and machinery operations, whilst also gaining a valuable insight into the breeding decisions of a prestigious pedigree herd.   Alongside my role as a Ruminant Technical Advisor & Sales Representative, I am involved with the Oatfield herd of J&J McCaughern, comprised of 170 Holstein Friesians.My duties include milking, grassland management, calf rearing and diet feeding primarily, in addition to a large amount of general animal husbandry and machinery work.

  Ruminant Technical Advisor & Sales Representative

  Following on from a successful student placement, I undertook the role of Ruminant Technical Advisor & Sales Representative with Chestnutt Animal Feeds.During my time with the firm I have built a loyal clientele from scratch, developing strong relationships with my customers which has been built on dedicated service, effective communication, and consistent results.Each year I have gained valuable, hands-on experience, working both independently, and as part of a team. I have developed a strong technical understanding of ruminant nutrition, which coupled with existing practical knowledge has brought competency in dealing with the many challenges faced on farm.Alongside sales and nutrition, I am also responsible for marketing; which entails the management of social media pages, producing promotional material, and organising special events/fundraisers. Of recent, I have also stepped up to the position of quality control, overseeing monthly testing of raw materials and finished feeds, and ensuring expected standards are met, from the mill through to the farm.
