    • Transco Energy Company

      Oct 1980 - Jun 1988
On-Shore Operations Manager and Senior Exploration Geologist

Mr. Barnes directed interdisciplinary geoscientific project teams conducting surface and subsurface investigations, geologic basin and reservoir studies and energy resource feasibility analyses in the continental USA and state waters. He conducted surface and subsurface site characterization studies and he supervised the geologic exploration and development of numerous oil, gas and geothermal fields in California, Louisiana, New Mexico, Oklahoma and Texas. His discoveries added 100 billion cubic feet of gas (BCFG) equivalent to the booked reserve base and increased daily production by 50 million cubic feet of gas (MMCFGPD) and 1,000 barrels of oil (BOPD). He directed geologic field operations for drill-site assessment, selection and construction; analyzed drill cuttings, cores and formation fluids; selected well casing points to protect fresh water aquifers and to maintain borehole integrity; designed petrophysical programs and interpreted electric logs; and supervised site remediation and clean closure operations.Mr. Barnes performed regional site characterizations for reservoirs and formations using whole cores, well cuttings, borehole electrical logging and geophysical surveys, seismic (2-D and 3-D) and engineering data, micropaleontology (index fossils), structural and stratigraphic mapping. He directed the development of remediation plans to clean-up and neutralize shallow aquifers and soils contaminated by hazardous wastes associated with petroleum-related operations and facilities. He developed exploration prospects and evaluated hundreds of drilling projects and joint venture opportunities presented by competitive oil companies. Oversight for 30 staff personnel in Houston, Tyler, New Orleans and Denver offices with total capex budget of $200 million. Show less

Director of Business Development and Technical Manager

Mr. Barnes was responsible for generating over 300 technical proposals or RFPs and for managing projects involving industrial hygiene, health and safety training, disaster response and environmental clean-up, site assessment, architectural and engineering design, construction and demolition management, UST testing and removal, soil vapor surveys, asbestos sampling and testing, air monitoring, asbestos abatement and hazardous waste management. Mr. Barnes represented the firm during all short list interviews and established key contracts with Fortune 1000 and governmental clients. He was instrumental in growing gross yearly revenues from $1.6 million to over $4.8 million with over a 60% proposal to contract award ratio. Mr. Barnes created an enviro-technical response team to expedite emergency on-site actions at sites with spills, at earthquake damaged sites and in buildings with asbestos fireproofing, other ACMs and PCBs impacted by fire, halon, smoke and water inundation events.
