    • Teck Cominco American Inc.

      May 1981 - Apr 2005
      Senior Geologist

I worked at Cominco American Inc. (later Teck Cominco American) from 1981 until 2005, with positions ranging from assistant geologist to senior geologist. I worked primarily in western North America, with some international experience, exploring for a variety of metal deposit types in diverse geologic settings. Work ranged from grass roots project generation and management to advanced project evaluation and management. Significant activities included a strong technical role in the discovery of the Sheep Creek copper deposits in Montana in 1985 (now called the Black Butte Copper Project), and a combined a lead technical/management role in discovery of the Washington Rock zinc deposit at the Pend Oreille mine at Metaline Falls, NE Washington. in 2000 which led to re-opening of the mine and for which my team and I received the Teck annual President's award. My time with Cominco American gave me a solid grounding in a variety of commodities and types of mineral deposits. I gained a strong background in understanding the early stage exploration process, and an appreciation of the types of mineral systems required to create a giant deposit. Show less

    • NovaGold Resources Inc.

      Apr 2005 - Dec 2008

I generated new projects and managed all early and mid stage exploration projects and activities for NovaGold in Alaska starting in early 2006. Work including work on the Ambler district in Alaska; work on orogenic gold deposits (Rock Creek) and gold and copper exploration on the Seward Peninsula; work an a variety of intrusive-related gold prospects in the 'Tintina gold belt' of Alaska; and evaluation of prospects and projects statewide. I joined NovaGold to work on the Ambler project in Northwest Alaska (Arctic Cu-Zn-Pb-Au-Ag VMS; Bornite Cu-Co), and also worked on a variety of other projects and generated several new targets.

      Vice President, Exploration

This company provided a home for several Alaskan early stage exploration projects I'd generated in NovaGold, and is the company to which I introduced the Black Butte Copper Project in central Montana.

    • Tintina Resources Inc

      May 2009 - now

I brought the Black Butte Copper project to this company and it has become our flagship project, which we've advanced from a small geologic resource to an NI 43-101 compliant high grade, underground minable resource of over one billion pounds of copper. I maintain a small geological staff and with our other senior staff have focused on advancing the development of this remarkable resource. We submitted a mine operating permit application to the Montana Department of Environmental Quality in December of 2015 and we achieved a 'draft' permit with the Montana Department of Environmental Quality in October of 2017. Now we are in the final Environmental Impact Study stage of Montana's permitting process, which by Montana statute is supposed to take no more than one year. The mining plan includes using tailings as paste backfill to completely fill underground workings; cemented paste tailings in a dry double lined surface facility; and entirely subterranean treated water discharge after reverse osmosis water treatment. 100% of the site will return to cattle grazing, its current use, after a short closure and reclamation period. The design focus has been to eliminate any issues with wat These measures enable us to meet Montana's strict nondegradation water standardsy and eliminate any aspect of the mine that would require 'perpetual' management. We are very committed to the local community of White Sulphur Springs and surrounding communities so that we have more jobs and maintain the great recreational and aesthetic qualities of the area we all love here. This change simply reflects a name change for the company after Sandfire Resources NL (Australia) reached 78.1% interest in Tintina. This represents the commitment of the Sandfire group to pushing forward with the Black Butte Copper Project.
