  Waste minimisation officer

  Currently working in the Waste and Recycling team as a Waste Minimisation Officer, with a particular focus on garden waste and composting.I currently manage the garden waste scheme, ensuring smooth running of the service both operationally and from a customer services standpoint. Within this role, I provide training and ongoing support to colleagues also working on the project. I have overseen the implementation of a new IT system, procured new products of over £70k, prepared communications, managed waste systems such as Whitespace and developed new processes to improve the running of a new chargeable garden waste service. I also work to encourage the rate of home composting in North Somerset; procuring the services of Garden Organic and working closely with them to set up a network of volunteers called “Master Composters”. This has involved planning and attending events, developing relationships with stakeholders and managing budgets. Outside of my role in garden waste and composting I work on waste education. This involves carrying out campaign work to educate residents about the importance of properly sorting recycling and the impacts of contamination in recycling streams. More operationally, I work on the implementation of waste and recycling services at flat blocks and HMOs. Installing mini recycling centres in new builds as well as carrying out capacity assessments at existing blocks to improve services. Show less
