      Master trainesheep Biotechnology

Activities and Societies: Master traineeship In this master traineeship I contributed to shedding light on mechanisms regulating the cellular location and function of a basic amino acid transporter in yeast; in particular, I have studied by mutational scanning approach the role played by the extracellular loop regions of this secondary transporter using several approaches: sequentially mutation, fluorescence microscopy, and transport assays to study the functionality/kinetic properties of the transporter.

Doctor of Philosophy - PhD Engineering and Optimizing Enzymes for Industry

My current PhD projects fall under the “Engineering and Optimizing Enzymes for Industry” theme. In addition to this primary project, I will be involved in related collaborations (through the ARC Centre of Excellence in Synthetic Biology). The first is to investigate the use of Vibrio natriegens-based expression systems for the secretion of engineered chitin-degrading enzymes. The second will investigate microbial adaptation to polyurethane (PU) utilization/degradation and using laboratory-based directed evolution with systems biology approaches to mine and engineer for PU biodegradation pathway enzymes.
