    • Amelia Island Museum of History

      Jun 2017 - Aug 2017
      Intern

My role as intern comprised many different functions, including:● My main task, the organization of an annual silent charity auction to fund college scholarships for underprivileged high school seniors. This entailed meeting local businesspeople to solicit them for items, handling the required 501 (c)(3) tax forms, advertising on social media, setting up the physical auction space, and recording all items in Excel for budgeting purposes. The auction was a success, making the largest amount of money in Museum History, more than twice that of the previous year's auction.● Organizing a "trivia night" fundraiser at a local restaurant. This entailed coordinating a time and negotiating a pricing scheme with said restaurant's management, and advertising the event on social media.● Organizing a “Patron Perks” historical river tour for donors. Much like the trivia night fundraiser, this involved coordinating optimal dates and times with various regional museums, restaurants, and riverboat charters.● Editing historically-focused articles and brochures put out by museum staff. This involved not only proofreading for grammatical mistakes, but fact-checking using historical records.● Updating the factbook used in museum tours through the same process of copy-editing and historical fact-checking to streamline it.● Custodial tasks including the taking of inventory, construction of exhibits, buying of supplies, customer service, and et cetera. • Nassau County Economic Development Board

      Jun 2018 - Aug 2018
      Development Intern

Served a variety of functions related to economic development issues in Nassau County, Florida. These included:● Cost/Benefit property analysis regarding new businesses entering the county. I extracted data on tax revenue and land sale prices for various lots and compiled them into a total estimate of revenue gained from economic development. My findings were presented to the local government and used successfully to argue for more funding for the Economic Development Board.● Conducted surveys to gauge county residents' feelings about their current economic status and potential future economic development, surveying both the general population through social media and high school students specifically.● Attended board meetings with the local government, businesspeople's associations, other nonprofits, and individual clients and provided my input.● Composed a cross-generational marketing plan for the Economic Development Board, using knowledge of political processes, regional economic circumstances, and popular perceptions.● Miscellaneous research, including the composition of interstate trucking drayage rates using fuel surcharges per mile, cost analysis of potential clients leaving the area, and et cetera. • Port of Fernandina - Ocean Highway and Port Authority

      Jun 2018 - Aug 2018
      Port Intern

As an intern with the Port of Fernandina Beach, I helped expand port business through marketing and data analysis. Specifically, I:● Used PIERS software to investigate cargo routes, and used this data to hypothesize how the Port could grow its business by taking advantage of international trends. Specifically, I analyzed time-series data involving cargo contents, specific shipping lines, and import/export volume from foreign ports in the context of Fernandina Beach's role as a small Atlantic feeder port.● Furthermore, I conducted case studies of other ports of similar size throughout Florida, to gain both insight into their successes and possible means to compete with them. This required I become familiar with maritime logistics terminology, its overall global process, and public policy.● Undertook an aggressive expansion of the Port's digital marketing capacity. I conducted international direct marketing campaigns on Facebook, LinkedIn, and Twitter to better reach clients at home and abroad. I regularly updated the Port's social media, created a Linkedin profile for it, and communicated with a website developer to add connectivity on its website. Additionally, I authored a general marketing plan involving local outreach to enhance the Port's reputation.● Accordingly, I successfully resolved a legal issue regarding the previous port operator's ownership of the Port's official Facebook page. Thanks to my efforts, the page was transferred to the current operator so it could be used in further digital marketing efforts. ● Identified all hazmat cargo processed into the Port and compiled this information for use by the Port operator. My findings were published in the local newspaper to assuage concerns regarding this. Show less

    • Welding Alloys Group

      May 2019 - Aug 2019
      Intern

As an Intern with Welding Alloys, I was assigned to research means of lowering their Johor Bahru facility’s electricity costs. This entailed:• Lowered energy usage in their climate controlled storage area. I investigated several different passive cooling methods (raising the AC setting by 1*C, installing insulation, painting the factory roof white, building a false ceiling, thermal chimneys, evaporative cooling, cross-ventilation, ), estimating capital expenditure, energy savings, and ROI for each to determine viability. Of these, the temperature increase was found to be the most viable, and applying it saved an estimated 9.52% monthly in the storage area, and 1.51% for the entire facility.• I computed my estimates through designing experiments, taking temperature and humidity measurements, projecting from previous academic research, and organizing site visits with contractors to gain price quotes. • Gained familiarity with many HVAC principles (R-value, Heating/Cooling Degree Days, Coefficient of Performance, Albedo, Reverse Stack Effect, etc.) as well as previous applications of the cooling methods and bodies of research surrounding them.• Researched the viability of a Solar Photovoltaic Energy System for the factory. The basis of my research was to contact solar industry leaders for estimates and calculate ROI. I became familiar with the costs and benefits of Solar, the various warranties/tariffs/maintenance issues involved, current Malaysian government policy towards Solar, and the history of Solar energy in Malaysia. • Researched energy efficiency regarding welding machine power sources. Analyzed equipment choices (Miller vs Lincoln, Transformer vs Inverter, Bridge vs Conventional Rectifiers) and their advantages/disadvantages.• Learned to use instruments like hygrometers and anemometers, Malaysian workplace culture, the Visa process, inter/intranational travel and lodging, and some basic phrases of conversational Malay/Bahasa Melayu.
