  I was at the operations center in Ospedale Civico with a drone operator understanding how the operations function and analyzing the advantages and disadvantages of utilizing drones as a transport medium. I also visited the offices in Zurich where I was able to observe how operations are managed in Mission Control and understand the various roles and responsibilities of the employees required for the operations to function properly. At the end of the internship, i sent a questionnaire to the Director of the EOC Ospedale Regionale di Lugano, as well as the Head of Lab in Ospedale Civico di Lugano, regarding the customer experience with Matternet and their future desires about the development of the company. I was also required to produce a final report discussing ways to optimize operations in order to reduce costs, describe the Matternet business plan, identify its strengths and weaknesses, and analyze the sustainability of such operations as well as the projected changes and improvements in the company.   I was assigned to contribute to the evaluation of Matternet’s financial model for the capital city of a major country in the Middle East, where Matternet is planning to launch operations. The model comprised the setup and operation of a multi-node network, connecting the city’s main hospitals, labs and specialty pharmacies . Among the cost elements evaluated for the study were node setup costs, regulatory limits around the autonomous operation of drones, service intervals, potential downtimes and contingencies.
