      I analyzed the usefulness of Trichopoda pennipes, a parasitic fly, as a biocontrol agent for pests like the southern green stink bug and leaf-footed bug. Finding a useful biocontrol agent is economically very important for farmers to protect crops. I started by amplifying mitochondrial genomic data using PCR. Later, once the amplified genome was sequenced at the UF Biotechnology Research Center, I helped analyze it using UF’s supercomputer HiPerGator.
