      Political Intern

I worked for the Sierra Club as a political intern. This position was unique due to the campaigning and media attention around New Hampshire before the primary. I went to numerous candidate town-hall meetings and rallies, and asked candidates questions pertaining to the environment (clean energy in particular). All the questions I asked were brainstormed by me, and approved by the national Sierra Club body. I also got the opportunity to be on a panel that interviewed Governor Maggie Hassan for an endorsement by the NH Sierra Club in her upcoming campaign for Senate. This short-term internship during the university's winter break lead to a long-term relationship. I continued to go to political events after returning to school, including the debate that was held at UNH. I plan on continuing my volunteer services for the Sierra Club in the future. Show less

      Discovery Counselor

As a Discovery Counselor, I was in charge of a different group of 6-9 year old children each week throughout the summer. Each week had a different environmental theme, and required extensive lesson planning to meet the criteria of the week. All of our lessons revolved around ecology, ecosystems, conservation, sustainability and were interactive and fun. I also had the opportunity and unique experience to work with the rescue animals that lived on site. These included a variety of turtles, ball python, corn snake, and raptors such as barn and barred owls, and red-tailed hawk.NH Audubon Nature Camp Objectives:Enhance ecological awarenessCultivate appreciation for and stewardship of our natural environmentProvide fun, safe, hands-on learning opportunitiesAdvocate inclusive learning environmentsBuild a sense of community andFoster a collaborative, non-competitive atmosphere. • University of New Hampshire - Department of Residential Life

      Aug 2016 - May 2018

As an "RA," I had two main jobs; make sure all my residents are safe, and create a sense of community. I served as an on-call staff member and responded to emergency situations. To build community, I conceptualized and facilitated programs and group activities in educational, cultural diversity, recreational, community service, and social areas. In addition, I worked with my 150 residents to mediated conflict, facilitate discussions, and enforce University policy. This position required a lot of individual work and growth as well as the ability to provide support to co-workers and students.I worked specifically within Fairchild Hall, which is also known as the International Dorm. I learned a lot about diversity and other cultures. Not only did I advise and assist the residents, they taught me about their homes and their unique perspectives. It is an experience I am very thankful for and will never forget. Show less

The Hunua Ranges are a culturally significant mountain range in the Auckland Region, New Zealand. Water has always been an important resource, and the water from the Hunuas is used to power most of Auckland city. Within these rivers, there are many barriers that were believed to be restricting migration of freshwater diadromous fish, including dams in culverts. Many affected species are endemic to New Zealand. In 2016, the Auckland Council funded the modification of culverts in Hunua streams; using methods known to improve fish passage such as spat ropes, ladders, and baffles. In 2016, the EcoQuest Education Foundation conducted a baseline survey of the streams before the modifications were installed. In 2017, my team conducted a survey to observe the changes in fish communities, abundance, and distribution. We electrofished to assess abundance both upstream and downstream of the modified passages, and conducted habitat assessments. Fish that were caught were identified and measured to quantify size and abundance in relation to the modified barrier and compare it to previous baseline data. Show less

      Zero Waste Intern

The UNH campus has decentralized indoor waste standards that are creating a problem of quantifying how much is effectively diverted from landfills. In an attempt to determine what the university has for inventory of receptacles, I assessed key variables of trash and recycling receptacles in academic buildings on campus. This established baseline data that the Sustainability Institute could then use as an inventory of current systems and determine where there is room for improvement. Using ArcMap, ArcCatalog, and Collector app to collect and analyze spatial and non-spatial data. Show less
