      Belmond is a leading international hotel chain with a collection of 42 businesses worldwide. The Grand Hibernian, a luxury train that travels around Ireland, is one of these. As a food and drink steward, I was required to deliver a five-star dinner service. I also spent 2 days a week on reception in the Westbury Hotel where I greeted guests and checked in their luggage. On the guests' arrival on board, I gave them a "show-down" tour of the train, pointing out the safety features and explaining the artwork on display. I also conducted these in French. Show less

      As a translation and communications intern, I got the chance to work on several EU regional projects:'NEMESIS' is a Horizon 2020 Project which seeks to implement social innovation practices in schools. 'The City is Ours', an initiative of the European Cultural Foundation, uses Mediactivism to take action against the growing tourism industry and the negative effects this is having on cities.As part of my work, I ran the communications for the NEMESIS and 'The City is Ours' projects. I created newsletters, brochures, and welcome packs for schools joining the initiative. I wrote content for the blogs and social media accounts and translated these into Spanish. Furthermore, I got the chance to edit and contribute to EU deliverables which informed on the progress of the projects. Show less

      The Multilingualism and External Relations Unit aims to promote and fulfil the Parliament's objective for multilingualism in its institutions. During my traineeship here, I completed a variety of tasks:Regularly updated the intranet and internet pages.Assisted in the production of the Newsletter for DG Trad, Tradivarius, for which I edited, proofread, wrote the editorial and contributed articles. This gave me a thorough knowledge of the WordPress publication process and taught me to adhere to deadlines under pressure.Laid out the pdf version of the Newsletter using Publisher which was distributed to the staff at DG TRAD. Assisted in the organization of our biennial conference, which featured discussions on Machine Translation. As part of this, I managed and edited the bios of the speakers for the Programme of the event.Took minutes during the conference which was hosted at the Hemicycle.       The Frank Jennings Fellowship is a dynamic training program that gives experience both in the NGO sector, working with the human rights organisation Front Line Defenders, and at the diplomatic level, working as a Research Assistant at the OHCHR in Geneva. My duties included:Drafting, editing and issuing urgent appeals, updates and statements on the cases of human rights defenders.Liaising with 'Protection Coordinators', regional fellows and NGOs from each region as part of the editorial process. Disseminating the urgent appeals, updates and statements to the heads of state under whose jurisdiction the violation has occurred. These are also distributed to regional human rights mechanisms, members of the diplomatic community, relevant UN special procedures mandates and relevant human rights defender communities. Show less

As part of this, I prepare a list of summaries on the cases most relevant to our mandate and redirected submissions to other mandates where appropriate.Convening the team meeting: Preparing the weekly team meeting agendas with current and upcoming cases and events. Drafting letters of allegation, urgent appeals, press releases and tweets. Liaising with other mandates on joint communications: Editing the content and supplementing the legal annex of joint letters of allegation with appropriate international legislation in accordance with the needs of the Human Rights Defenders mandate. Managing my own caseload and liaising with sources to draft government communications on specific violations of victims. Carrying out research to supplement our submission material and enhance the contextual background of the text. Researching and preparing talking points for the Special Rapporteur in her meetings with various Ambassadors to the UN. Show less
