  Maintenance Technician

  I was recruited into this job role as maintenance and commissioning technician, and progressed to the level of a Deputy Production controller. This job involved the initial commissioning in the UK and Germany of 155 Siemens Desiro trains, contracted to South West Trains. After commissioning was complete the job changed to a support function of the fleet. I dealt with all faults and failures that may arise, covering the whole South West Main line, from London Waterloo to Weymouth, while constantly liaising with the customer and passengers to give the best possible support. I gained invaluable experience and skills from doing this job, the main areas I have gained experience in are:• Various course’s on Desiro systems which include:• Running Maintenance, Door systems, VBT, ACU’s, Electrical schematics, Under frame bogeys and couplers, OTMR’s plus additional training in Graz.• Rail Infrastructure and maintenance which include:• PTS, AC and DC Lines• Designated Person certification• Depot control, which involved moving rolling stock around the depot in coordination with SWT shunters and their safe working practices• Support Technician at London Waterloo Station, covering 80% of the fleet of class 450 and 444 EMU’s. Giving frontline reactive and breakdown maintenance, in an incredibly high pressure environment, to assure maximum asset availability for the TOC, also ensuring customer care and public safety. • Close working relationship with SWT engineers, staff and Police.• Covering outstations for repairs and inspections and working within strict time constraints, to ensure trains are available for service in the morning.• Providing technical support at mainline failures, typical examples are three strikes, vandalism and fatalities.• Excellent customer relations Show less
