I managed the service for a large rural and remote locality including a number of islands.Led on Workstream 1 of Scotland Early years collaborative for Community Planning Partnership. This initiative utilised IHI methodology to implement policy ,in short it is addressing inequalities by promoting multidisciplinary working to ensure the best outcomes for families . I also carried out a tele health project to explore utilising tele health to provide additional support for families and professionals in remote and rural situations.I believe in supporting midwives and the wider maternity care team to be able to provide the best care for families. In Scotland I have been involved in developing and teaching on courses to maintain the skills and competencies to provide emergency care in Obstetric emergencies. Show less While working as an integrated midwife carrying out all aspects of maternity care for a rural community 90 miles from the nearest referral centre I regularly spoke on ;risk management in rural practice, social model of midwifery at a variety of conferences and as a guest lecturer.I worked also in practice development developing training packages for managing emergencies in remote and rural practice and to ensure practitioners could access training to ensure they were abel to maintain competencies to practice.During this time I worked with thte university of Paisley on a research project to develop and evaluate an e-health training package for rural and remote practitioners in managing unplanned obstetric care and emergencies. I have the privilege of working with 5 community maternity units and island services to provide safe sustainable woman and family centred care in wonderfully challenging remote and rural Scotland.Remote and rural practice has similar challenges worldwide. context and resources may differ but supporting resilience in individuals ,families and communities in an urban centric society is a challenge.
