Northumbria healthcare nhs foundation trust
Sept 2012 - Aug 2013Hr graduate management trainee - with northumbria healthcare nhs foundation trustI was in the role of HR Advisor, supporting managers on a range of employment matters including sickness absence, employee health and wellbeing, maternity leave, flexi retirement, employee terms and conditions and learning and development opportunities, in line with employment law and best practice. I was involved with case reviews with members of the occupational health team, with whom the HR team worked in partnership, to seek advice and ascertain the best way forward with complex, longstanding and/ or difficult cases of sickness absence. I gained good experience in a range of different HR and OD activities including recruitment and selection, training and development, workforce planning, Agenda for Change and redeployment. My understanding of the development of organisational strategy and how this aligns to HR/OD systems, processes and practices, in partnership with trade unions, was enhanced by my opportunity to attend various Board subgroup meetings. I completed my investigation training which then led to my providing HR support in discipline, grievance and dignity at work investigations. This involved working in partnership with the investigating officer, coordinating and conducting witness interviews, and compiling the investigation report. I was able to gain a lot exposure to investigations, note taking in interviews and at hearings. I provided HR support in a process of major organisational change which involved the introduction of a new shift pattern, involving use of the e-rostering system. This included group consultation, 1 to 1s and follow up and working effectively with union representatives. I developed a survey and administered this to staff to ascertain their attitudes towards the change process, which provided management with insight into the effectiveness of their leadership styles during change. Northumberland, tyne & wear nhs foundation trust
Nov 2013 - Aug 2014Hr graduate management trainee with the leadership and organisational development departmentI was involved in a range of organisational development activities including interventions which support the development of organisational leadership, employee engagement and embedding of organisational values. My experience with the Trust has involved carrying out an evaluation of the leadership development programme and a needs analysis for the future leadership development, which has informed the emergent leadership development strategy. I have been involved in supporting the Trust's approach to recruiting for values and embedding values throughout the organisational processes. This has included my carrying out a review of the work to date, upon my arrival at the organisation and carrying out a gap analysis to determine priorities for the on going development of this approach. I formulated a behavioural framework, with staff comments gathered from staff at various listening events. This included a clear description of aligned and non aligned behaviours. The framework has also been used to support the new appraisal paperwork and process and assessment centre and interview paperwork, so employees behaviours, as well as competencies will be taken into account when assessing performance. I led on NHS Change Day at the trust. This included working with the communications team to develop a campaign including the use of posters, banners and displays. It also involved the coordination of a group of 'change agents' to promote the day at the various trust sites. Show less

I sat on the Ageing Workforce Strategy Committee also, for which I prepared and took actions.I was my floor's health and safety representative. This has recently involved carrying out an audit and developing an action plan which will be rolled out in 2015.
