      Activities Assistant

During the Summer of 2018 I worked on the Millfield English Language Holiday Course. It is a residential course for students aged between 11 and 17 who do not speak English as a first language and runs for six weeks. I worked in the activities department leading yoga, dance and drama classes to a range of students with different abilities and different levels of English. The job involved creating lesson plans and risk assessments that catered to the individual needs of the students in my group. I choreographed and developed performances to showcase what the students had learnt. I also coordinated and supervised off campus trips. Show less

Summer School Assistant House Parent and Activities Assistant

During the summer of 2019 I worked on the Millfield English Language Holiday Course. It is a residential course for students aged between 11 and 17 who do not speak English as a first language and runs for six weeks. I worked as a houseparent in the pastoral department becoming the first point of call for any welfare or pastoral issues the students had. The job demanded great tolerance and understanding as translation was often difficult and caring responsibilities to ensure each child`s complex needs were met. The position also involved accompanying students on off campus trips and collecting them from airports around the UK. I also ran afternoon clubs and activities. Show less

      Teacher of EAL

As a teacher within the EAL (English as an Additional Language) department I create a successful learning environment through clear communication, supportive listening, and utilize innovative techniques to maintain engagement. The position involves working closely with individual children and catering lessons to the specific needs and requirements of each student. Having recently completed a MSc in Psychology of Mental Health my interest in developmental psychology has grown. This position within the school allows me to gain valuable hands on experience in both understanding the cognitive processes involved in learning, memory and language and presents an opportunity to provide pastoral support within a boarding house. Such work closely follows the research I undertook as part of my dissertation, exploring the fundamental impact teachers and carers can have on not only a child’s educational development but their social development and sense of self.
