      Oct 2024 - Oct 2024
Visiting Scholar - The Norris Lab

I had the privilege of joining four other patient researchers to visit The Norris Lab, a basic science research lab at the Medical University of South Carolina. The Norris Lab focused on studying the etiology of Hypermobile Ehlers Danlos Syndrome (hEDS), an under-researched genetic loose connective tissue disorder. During this experience, I spent three days shadowing and learning from researchers in the lab, such as Dr. Russell Norris, Dr. Cortney Gensemer, PhD Candidate; Taylor Petrucci, MD PhD Student; Kathryn Byerly, Clinical Coordinator; Victoria Daylor, and Research Specialists Molly Griggs and Amy Weintraub. Furthermore, I sat in on seminars on the current hEDS research initiatives conducted by the lab. This experience was humbling as I have suffered from this condition my whole life. I am so grateful to this lab for hosting me and their dedication to finding answers for a disease with far too many questions. Show less
