      Jun 2021 - Jul 2021
      Operations Intern

Executive SummaryThis internship of 45 days period was successfully completed in Shalby Multi-specialty Hospitals under Hospital Operations department from 21.06.2021 to 08.08.2021 as a requirement of MHA program in Department of Health innovation, Prasanna school of public health, Manipal Academy of Higher Education. As being completely new to practical, corporate world setting, every hour spent in the operations department gave me some amount of experience all the time all of which cannot be explained in words. But nevertheless, they will be all useful for my career. Outcomes of this internship included- how an operations department works, its constituents, workflow, physical facilities, staffing, functional aspects/ policies/ procedures/ specific problems etc. On my first day, a tour of hospital was provided by head of the department and an introduction to all key people and was preceded by a brief introduction by COO and the Dy. CAO. This was followed by forming a schedule of all days. In my time at hospital, I mainly observed and shadowed executives in their routine work. The major areas of learning for me were CSSD, Housekeeping, Food, and beverages units. In the end, few minor projects were taken up to provide value to organization. With limited knowledge and experience I tried my best to understand concepts and translated the real-world experience into a document (internship report). The various boundaries to process improvement and maintaining ethical standards in a corporate environment have also been experienced. The report which was written may be useful for designing any further study to evaluate the functioning of the department. Show less
