I am currently Lead Designer on the ‘Live’ sections of the daily newspaper (News, Business and Sport), serving as deputy to the Art Director, managing rotas and contributing concepts and illustrations to digital platforms.Help guide a team of five designers in the timely and vibrant layout of daily pages across three sections, which can be as many as 40 pages in a single edition. Also represent design in news conferences throughout the day, liaising with the editor to make our voice and ideas heard.I was also selected to spearhead the implementation of a new publishing system used to build all of the Telegraph’s print products. While initially put forward for implementation of design, my technical aptitude meant my role quickly grew to represent all editorial interests in the use of the software.I experimented, decided upon and implemented production workflows to best suit the newsroom.-Performed extensive testing and troubleshooting.-Worked closely with the US-based vendor in its use, making development requests where appropriate.-Decided upon and built 1000s of InDesign library items, paragraph styles and templates to be compatible with multiple systems.-Trained staff from across the newsroom in the system’s use.-Represented the project’s needs and report any issues to project leads, stakeholders and executives.-The system is now successfully used across all of the Telegraph’s print sections. Show less I ran The Telegraph’s gaming coverage for over a decade; planning content, writing articles, commissioning writers and editing their work to meet our standards.I built the nascent Gaming section into a well-read and highly-respected outlet in the industry, seeing considerable audience growth and winning best National Newspaper Coverage at the Games Media Awards in 2016, the last time the award took place.Travelled the world representing the Telegraph, secured exclusives such as the first look at Red Dead Redemption 2, interviewed development talent, company CEOs and industry luminaries such as Shigeru Miyamoto.Edited, managed and mentored many writers both in-house and freelance on the gaming channel.Worked with SEO to stay on trend and ensure improved ranking for gaming articles on the Telegraph. As well as using Parsely and in-house analytics to inform our performance and direction. Show less Upon joining the Telegraph design team as a Junior designer --first as freelance and then full-time-- I honed my design skills across the fullest range of the newspaper’s print sections.-Began on News, learning from the Creative Director and news editors.-Became the main Business designer, with a particular focus on conceptual centre spreads.-Produced vibrant Features pages across a range of subjects, including Gardening, Travel and Property.-Led design on Arts Review, producing several creative and versatile front covers.-Led design on Sport, redesigning the section and creating dynamic pages at speed on live nights, including statistical graphic packages and conceptual covers.-Created new designs for special supplements, including Total Football, Olympics, World Cup coverage and unique one-off editions.-Recognised for my work on evocative covers. This includes the “British #MeToo scandal”, which won Front Page of the Year in 2019 Show less
