In my first year the laboratory sessions involved learning to use different machine processing equipment, different welding processes and validating engineering equations and computer simulations. The lectures often involved engineering drawings. In second year there were no drawing lectures or laboratory sessions in the welding lab. In third year were to make a choice between Mechanical - Process Engineering and Mechanical - Manufacturing Engineering. Based on what subjects were involved in each option and my exam results from the previous year, I choose the Manufacturing Engineering option. After my third year in the Level 7 course, I was able to enter the third year of the Level 8 Mechanical Engineering course. Show less

      Jun 2013 - Aug 2013
      Undergraduate Engineer

I was employed as an undergraduate engineer with ESB E-cars on an electrical vehicle project in Summer 2013. My initial assignment was reviewing old reports of electric vehicle projects in Ireland and other European countries and formatting Excel documents on usage of charge points. During my placement I created a test route in order to test drive an electric vehicle across the country, calculating distances between charge points to determine locations for pit-stops. I attended several project meetings with my supervisor, including a small ceremony for the announcement of a new charge point location. Show less
