      Industrial Placement Student

I selected the Business Studies degree at Glasgow Caledonian University as the third year was spent undertaking an Industrial Placement and, appreciating the importance of both an academic education and hands on practical work experience, I spent my year Xerox. My role was initially that of an office administrator, giving me the opportunity to learn the ins and outs of how an organisation conducts its business and begin to develop my aptitude with Microsoft Office packages. As my placement went on I undertook a number of projects from providing the sales team with well researched and informative stakeholder information to running the internal and external communications and newsletters. • Scotland Excel

      Oct 2008 - Jul 2013

As Business Change Analyst I sat within the Scotland Excel Reform team, a team of Analysts who are charged with delivering the Scottish Local Authorities Procurement Improvement Programme. The role was challenging, unpredictable and incredibly rewarding. Ultimately, I was responsible for delivering a number of change programmes which meant I had to be very organised, have exceptional communication skills and be proficient in data analysis with a view to formulating effective solutions before undertaking a change programme. I love working in a change environment as it gives me the opportunity to research, problem solve and formulate solutions before working with people from all walks. Whilst I appreciate that not everyone is as excited about change as I am, I’ve always found that my energy and positive outlook encourages and greatly assists those that I am supporting through a change programme. Show less The role of Business Service Specialist was my first exposure to management, as a Business Service Specialist assumes line management responsibilities for the Business Operations Team..The team, made up of 5 Business Service Analysts, was responsible for running the customer service aspect of Scotland Excel, the preparation and delivery of 'eCatalogues' so that customers could upload Scotland Excel contract information into their respective purchasing systems and the day to day tasks for keeping an organisation running e.g. invoicing, HR, etc. Show less As a Relationship Adviser I was responsible for running a number of projects and supervising and coordinating the Relationship Analysts workload. A Relationship Analyst dwelt with the organisations customer services telephone, email and website enquires and as such, it was my responsibility to ensure that they were trained and knowledgeable enough to proficiently assist customers to access the Scotland Excel contract portfolio and direct suppliers appropriately when enquiring as to how they bid for Local Government business within Scotland. In addition to this supervisory role, I was responsible for the running of the Associate Member service. This service aimed to work with Third Sector and Charitable organisations to establish areas where the organisation could capitalise on savings costs via accessing Scotland Excel’s collaborative contracts.
