Its goal is to accelerate economic growth by stimulating and supporting business-led innovation. Sponsored by the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills (BIS), the Technology Strategy Board brings together business, research and the public sector, supporting and accelerating the development of innovative products and services to meet market needs, tackle major societal challenges and help build the future economy. Two of the major issues facing the energy sector are the need to reduce costs and to develop the supply chain. The Technology Strategy Board can minimise risk and remove barriers to innovation in both these areas. Our investment is focused on opportunities for innovation in: identifying affordable, sustainable and secure sources of supply; integrating both demand and supply into a flexible and resilient energy system; and reducing greenhouse gas emissions at point of use. We have a growing, four-year programme of investment to help business develop technologies which can integrate future demand and energy supply into a flexible, secure and resilient energy system.
