  Over a period of four years I gained experience in various process control systems. Learnt hands on skills such as bench work, fitting and turning using a lathe, welding using gas mig and electric arc methods. Studied electronics and made various simple circuits using discrete components. Had experience with PLC Control of plant equipment and automation. For my major project in my final year I created a hydraulically operated walking beam assembly controlled by a Gem 80 PLC controller. Through the course of the apprenticeship in the third and fourth years I was placed around different plant areas to gain an appreciation of the steel making processes. Show less

  Reporting to the Systems Engineer my role included, QA maintenance and record keeping, maintenance and development of existing and new process control equipment. Responsible for the installation / design of pc systems on the mill and office environments. Network maintenance and troubleshooting, installation of new network equipment on the Hot Rolled Products Local Area Network. Desktop software support for pc users. Became a competent mainframe user to operate various local systems such as QA records, Pisces Mainframe purchasing system, and spares control. Through the course of my post in HRP I was responsible for management of contractors from various disciplines structural, mechanical and electrical so as to ensure that the required job was complete to a satisfactory conclusion.   Systems Engineer - Process Control

  In this post I managed all of the plant data cabling services and automation work as required. This involved full network design, implementation & documentation. Due to the economic climate it enabled myself and my local team to take on more responsibility of installation tasks where applicable, leading to a cost saving for the company as less external contractors were required.• Along with network management and design I was also a computer Systems Engineer responsible for management and maintenance upkeep of various key critical business server systems. Managing and maintaining the backup strategy for systems. I have trained in the Symantec application Veritas Backup enabling various methods for data backups.• Assisting the central service help desk on system support issues. I was part of a team of Domain Administrators for the Port Talbot Steel Works site, encompassing several thousand users. • Middle management experience extends to full time management of a systems technician and his daily responsibilities, included with that were his personal development and job specific tasks along with completing an appraisal for him based on an agreed annual appraisal plan. Alongside my personal development plan I was also responsible to deputize for my line manager in his duties such as personnel management, attending meetings, and other local team issues. Show less

  As the Specialist Systems Engineer for Cold Rolled Products at Port Talbot, i am responsible for technical support of numerous ICT Computer Systems, this includes bare metal recovery and other backup/restores .Local Area Network infrastructure Design ,Installation, Maintenance & modifications spanning all plant areas utilizing different technologies and media from twisted pair cat 5/6 to Optical Fiber on managed and unmanaged Cisco , Hirshman & Siemens Scalence Ethernet switches , Layer 3 switch routers and Wireless Access points.Supporting and developing existing SCADA HMI displays, mainly GE I-fix and Various PLC Controllers Ge ,Siemens & their communications. Local Server Administration on Windows Active Directory for various Assets within the remit of the production plant.Basic Development & Support of generic html & asp webpages on local IIS server.
