    • The Mosaic Company

      Jan 2017 - Dec 2017
      Mine Engineer Intern

My job as a Mine Engineering Intern includes various tasks and projects within the Mine Engineering department. These responsibilities include: -reviewing and issuing weekly gas test results,- managing various projects, - writing reports, -various tasks underground. Projects that I have worked on include: forecasting the royalties owned to lease owners, analysing the current cutting patterns, and developing new ones, waterhole pumping upgrade, creating a request for proposal for an ore grade control system, ordering a 24” rolling fan, ordering new diesel particulate equipment and arranging for a contractor to train Mosaic Colonsay’s mechanics, conducting emissions tests on vehicles, creating and reviewing quarterly ventilation drawings, and analysing the effectiveness of the new ventilation system underground. I also filled in for two weeks as the Production Coordinator. This required me to forecast the tonnage that each miner would cut for each shift, and to forecast the amount of raw ore that the mine would produce daily, weekly, and monthly. Additionally, I created the weekly maintenance schedule for each miner, based on its progress and the wear it would experience. In this role, I lead daily meetings at 6am and 12pm with the mine’s supervisors to coordinate the days task. I also filled in for two 12-hour shifts as the Mine Dispatcher. This required me to monitor all activity underground, and to control underground operations. I was responsible for ensuring that work orders where generated and the proper crews dispatched to the correct location. I verified belt lockouts, and controlled the traffic in and out of the mining units Show less
