I was also a literacy coordinator responsible for planning school-wide events and presenting lesson plans and strategies to engage students while improving reading and writing skills, fluency, comprehension, and communication.In addition, I served on a 6-person committee that planned and executed a literacy carnival, engaging over 70 students in building literacy skills by engaging them in vocabulary, fluency and comprehension games and activities.   I lead a team of 11 members at Overbrook High School in implementing City Year tutoring andmentoring programs for 76 9th grade students focusing on attendance, behavior, and course performance in math and literacy, with the goal of helping students reach grade-level performance. In addition, I monitor the progress of the team towards engaging 57 students in 15 hours of math and literacy tutoring. Other responsibilities include observing and coaching corps members monthly to help improve their academic tutoring skills, collecting, inputting and analyzing data to meet service and educational goals, and evaluating the team’s performance to ensure City Year, AmeriCorps, and School District of Philadelphia goals are met.   I manage a diverse team of young adults in executing data-driven academic, behavior, and attendance interventions, running after-school programming, and implementing whole-school events and initiatives at an urban middle school. I ensure this is possible by maintaining a strong partnership between City Year and school administration as a member of the school’s Leadership Team. Additional responsibilities/projects:-Design and facilitate trainings on implementing Literacy tutoring strategies for 205 AmeriCorps members-Develop and facilitate Community Meetings, which foster unity, pride and City Year culture for staff and the corps-Planned and facilitated Mid Year Summit, a two-day retreat that refocuses the corps and frames the second half of the service yearAccomplishment:-My site was selected to host a visit from the Gates Foundation in the process of securing a major grant for City Year, Inc. I was responsible for engaging administrators, teachers, school and community partners, and students, as well as staff members from City Year's Senior Leadership team in discussions and presentations highlighting the collaborative partnership between City Year and Frankford High School.
