Activities and Societies: Throughout my first and second year I was a member of the Mock Trial Society where I acted as either the prosecution or defence in a crown court scenario. It was my responsibility to prepare opening and closing arguments as well as provide coherent arguments. I was also a member of the M.A.R.S Society where I had to research case law and prepare skeleton arguments - I also had to face judicial intervention. I also volunteered at an Animal Shelter through the Student's Union. A qualifying law degree which incorporated a Master's and the LPC.

      Mini pupillage

I completed a two day mini-pupillage; here I had the opportunity to shadow two barristers. The first day I attended court and witnessed the process of a ‘Winding Up Petition’. I was also responsible for organising the file for court. On the second day I attended the High Court to watch a case in relation to bankruptcy; I also got to converse and attend the meetings with the client.Additionally, I was tasked with practising how to write advice to a client. This involved researching legislation and applying it to a real life scenario which was then compared to the advice that was given by the barrister. Overall, this has allowed me to advance my research and analytical skills. Show less

In this role I am required to manage the callers (a team of 10-20 at a time) in the Telecentre to ensure they are working efficiently. It is my responsibility to delegate tasks to the callers as well as complete specific documents/spreadsheets in order to keep statistics updated. This job has allowed to enhance and gain many essential skills. One example is being proactive as the team needs me to set standards, give directions and provide support where needed. I always need to be prepared in order to provide instructions as well as answers.I also need to be able to think quick as sometimes I must deal with multiple problems at once which I need to provide solutions to.Most importantly I have developed good communication skills, this has stemmed from it being my responsibility to support the team that I work with. I am required to speak to each member of the team on a regular basis, e.g. in work and in meetings, and also have to inform about any problems and identify methods to solve these problems. I also identify any successes.I have also developed good listening skills, for example it is my responsibility to listen to people's needs and act to help improve performance. It is important that I am approachable so that the team know they can come and speak to me about any problems. Show less My role is to collate feedback from current students and deliver that feedback in meetings to our Year Director. I also contribute by offering potential solutions to particular issues or concerns in order to help make positive changes within the Law School.A successful example of implementing positive change is when we informed our Year Director that certain modules did not work together, we managed to partially restructure part of the final year programme which would help to reduce pressure and stress for students during the exam period. We found that this is something that would have benefitted us so we implemented that change for the benefit of the students in the following year. Show less

As the Treasurer of the society, it is my role to manage its financial affairs in relation to its income and expenditure. It is, therefore, my responsibility to consider an annual budget, work out the cost of events, collect membership fees and any ticket sales, and arranging sponsorships and grants. As a part of my role, I helped to organise a Bake Sale within the Law School in order to raise funds and awareness of our newly established society. Vice President of STEP (Student Trainee Exchange Programme) for the European Law Students Association at Northumbria University.
