  I worked jointly with a material science professor exploring the characteristics of Ultra-High Molecular Weight Polyethylene (UHMWPE) of a specific radiation sterilization protocol.Reviewed previous research articles to design testing protocols and explore structure-property relationships of UHMWPE.Through these testing protocols, I examined the stress-strain relationship for cyclical loading that emulated average usage conditions. Also examined the relaxation mechanism before proceeding with a successive round of loading. After conducting the loading, I used a DSC machine to examine the crystalline changes of the UHMWPE to relate structural features to property. I explored new ways of extracting protein from a seed and bind it to sand to flocculate contaminants from water.
