As a Grid Modernization Engineer for Xcel Energy, I was a key member of Xcel Energy's Advanced Grid Intelligence and Security (AGIS) program. In AGIS, I was our business lead for the feeder automation (FLISR) program. I was also responsible for the end-to-end integration of many types of field devices and sensors into our EMS system and other related head-end systems. In this role, I leveraged my depth of experience in capacitor control and IVVO, advanced power line sensors, communications networks (WiMAX, 900MHz mesh and LTE) to support the overall initiative. I was a subject matter expert for distribution automation in support of the Advanced Distribution Management System (ADMS) deployment. I was also a contributor to several strategic initiatives with involvement on electric vehicles, demand response and energy storage. As a change agent, I also worked to push the business toward modern solutions. I am also active in the study and analysis of grid storage and am excited about the potential for energy storage in our industry. Show less In this role I worked as the Distribution Engineer for the Mankato & Faribault area. This role required interaction with customers for new or expanded services, initiating repair/upgrade work to improve reliability and working with system planning to ensure feeders and substations have capacity for the future.I also functioned as a Distribution Automation Engineer. I worked on our team that piloted and rolled out Xcel's Volt/Var Management System as well as initiated large feeder automation projects in our metropolitan areas. Another responsibility during this time was as Outstate Operating Engineer. This role required interaction with the control center during storms and peak load days, reviewing and approving switching requests and communication with substation and transmission to coordinate work efforts.
