  Supplemental Instruction Leader

  Since my first semester in my Sophomore year, I have been working as a Supplemental Instruction (SI) Leader for ECON 317 - Introductory Statistics for Economics. As SI leader, I am responsible for leading 3-4 weekly supplemental sessions for over 100 students taking the course every semester. Every week, I make worksheets and review material with practice problems and visual aids to reinforce what was taught in the classroom. The course focuses on topics including statistical inference, linear regressions, time series modeling, and probability analysis. I assist the students from week 1 all the way up to the final week of the semester.For students who have regularly attended my sessions throughout the semester, I have successfully helped in increasing average scores by a median value of 31%. I also have received overwhelmingly positive feedback about the sessions and have had people tell me that they enrolled in this specific class because I was the SI leader for it. I believe the reason for this response is my ability to make these sessions fun and lighthearted. I try to immediately establish a friendly rapport with the students and include fun and creative problems in the worksheets. By doing so, I am able to communicate technical econometric principles in a digestible manner. I find that these qualities have improved over the last 2 years that I have served as an SI leader.Not only has this role fortified statistical concepts in me, but it has also made me proficient at conveying them to those who do not understand it as well. Moreover, the weekly session planning, scheduling, and content preparation have instilled in me strong organizational skills and the ability to balance academic commitments effectively. Show less
