  I took an optional 12-month work placement with Dr Alessio Accardi at The University of Iowa, USA, during my BSc Biochemistry degree. A combination of biochemical and biophysical techniques were used to study the structural and functional underpinnings of genetic diseases associated with ion channels and transporters.

The work involved the study and manipulation of bacterial metabolism for enhanced bioethanol production and was in collaboration with TMO Renewables Ltd, Surrey, UK.
