    • Albert Einstein Medical Centre

      Jun 1999 - Jul 2002
      Internal Medicine Resident

I received a nothing-less-than-excellent medical residency training in Einstein, due to both the quality of the hands-on teaching by people like Dr Glenn Eiger as well as the opportunities of peer training, as Einstein was always open to very high quality international medical graduates as their residency cohort. The personal success of Einstein graduates tells that story. I particularly benefited from the intensive care units based training and the extensive exposure to cardiology.

    • Department of infectious diseases, Addenbrooke's Hospital, Cambridge University Hospitals

      Oct 2008 - Jul 2016
      Clinical Lead

I led a busy clinical department which has major responsibility for service provision for HIV, infectious diseases, travel & tropical medicine, sepsis, community and hospital acquired infections on an inpatient, outpatient and consult basis. The department has a virtual catchment area of over 5 million people. In this role, I doubled the department's manpower, I initiated and saw through three transformative projects that have so far saved more than ten thousand inpatient days and more than a million £ for our hospital (outpatient antibiotic service, the HIV EOE Network and the infectious diseases transplant service). I have also managed change extensively. I have stepped down from this role in August 2016 to take on the new role of the head for transplant and immunodeficiency infections. In this role, I am creating the first service of its kind in the UK. Show less

I am actively involved in medical, epidemiology and public health teaching. In August 2016, I took on the role of the head for transplant and immunodeficiency infections. In this role, I am creating the first service of the kind in the UK. I am privileged to teach in the university in various roles and positions but arguably none is more responsible than helping shape the future physicians.

    • Teikyo University of Japan

      Visiting Professor

I am a passionate servant of modern medical education methodology in the UK and abroad. I had the opportunity to put my new knowledge in good use recently, when I was invited to teach the 2016 Epidemiology module of the Harvard-Teikyo Course (http://www.med.teikyo-u.ac.jp/~tsph/150817-final_2016_Teikyo-Harvard_en.pdf) at the Teikyo School of Public Health, in Tokyo, Japan.Teikyo University invites five professors every January from world-renowned universities such as Harvard, Cambridge, Oxford, and Durham to provide us intensive courses since 2012, followed by the establishment of Graduate School of Public Health. The courses are designed to serve as a part of competency-based education which Teikyo SPH embraces as a methodology, and cover five core areas required by the Council of Education for Public Health: Epidemiology, Biostatistics, Environmental Health Sciences, Health Policy and Management, and Social and Behavioral Sciences. The teaching style is very interactive, including many discussions in a small group. Past sessions had approximately hundred participants a year. In addition to domestic participant, students from all over the world including the United States, China, Taiwan, Indonesia, the Philippines, Thailand, as well as African and Caribbean countries, made a contribution to giving a global atmosphere to classroom.
