Junior associate / university intern - finance

Forming part of Grant Thornton Malta's finance team as an intern has allowed me to expose myself to the real world of business while having the possibility to continue my studies at UM. This, therefore, enabled me to put the theory into practice. My responsibilities include the execution of reports on a monthly basis, maintaining updated records of the day-to-day transactions, issuance of sales invoices and credit notes, liaising issues with clients and colleagues, assisting the finance team as the need may arise and other ad-hoc tasks.Apart from this direct industry experience, training related to both a number of service lines within the firm and personal development was also provided, thereby enhancing the overall experience. From time to time opportunities not related to the department you are working with crop up. Although these projects are short-term, I believe that they do add value to you as an employee. This is so since while you are acquiring new industry skills, many times you will find yourself going out of your comfort zone and therefore another possibility of developing on a personal aspect as well. • Ascs

      May 2021 - Apr 2024

Throughout the year, as ASCS' official leader and spokesperson and thus having the capacity as President of the Executive, I presided over all executive meetings. In this manner, I oversaw the Association's general and financial administration. I was in a position where I could delegate tasks to executive members as deemed fit and necessary for the Association, all along motivating them, monitoring their progress, provide input where and when possible, which ultimately allowed me to make managerial decisions. Alongside the Secretary General, I also attended the Administration Forum hosted by KSU.Throughout my tenure as President for the term 2022/23, I made sure that the organisation as a whole was delivering the service which FEMA students at large deserve - that of representing them in our best capacity. As such, I ensured that the ASCS' executive team members and any financial resources which the Association holds were utilised and maximised in an efficient manner. This was achievable through the strategic thinking and management initiated and carried out from the very start of our term. Given that my role got into all areas which the organisation holds, I had the opportunity to further enhance my knowledge, skills and competencies, which benefited me not only on a personal level but also professionally whilst working in a team; wherein all along I believed that my role should not only be of a leader, but more importantly a motivator and a listener.Leading ASCS for the year 2022/2023 has brought out in me a far more responsible, humble and reachable person and thus allowed me to grow as a person. Show less ASCS is an NGO based in Malta, representing students who are studying at tertiary level within the Faculty of Economics, Management and Accountancy (FEMA) at the University of Malta. ASCS is run by a team of twelve (12) students currently enrolled for a course offered by FEMA.For the term 2021/22 as the Academic Officer for ASCS my responsibilities include:Address academic issues which students may bring to the attention of the student organisation.Assist new and returning FEMA students throughout their academic journey, by organising a set of talks throughout the year and being a reference point when needed. Talks organised during my tenure as Academic Officer were the Majors' Talk, Masters' Talk and Freshers' Talk.Further bridging the gap in communication between students and the Faculty, in order to make sure that the students' academic experience is a fruitful one.Collaborate with ASCS' Industry Officer in order to make sure that FEMA students can get hands-on experience through workshops held by professionals in the field. During the first academic term, together with the Industry Officer we were able to put up a one-day conference entitled and branded as Elevate, whereby a number of workshops were delivered in relation to blockchain, entrepreneurship, public speaking, investments, crisis management amongst others.Compile past papers and notes, which are then uploaded on our website, for students to refer to as the examination periods approach.Provide assistance to the rest of the executive members for events which are put up throughout the year.
