      Feb 2010 - Mar 2012

Sam managed the design of the Cameron Park Drive Zone for the Hunter Expressway ($22million construction value). The design was delivered under budget and 3 weeks ahead of schedule. The project involved the upgrade of an existing dual lane roundabout at the intersection of Cameron Park Drive and Newcastle Link Road to a fully signalised intersection, with significant road widening on all legs (up to seven lanes). Due to the success on the Hunter Expressway Alliance, part of the design team was retained to deliver the detailed design of the intersection. As the adjacent Hunter Expressway project was already under construction, there were design time pressures and coordination challenges for the construction interface and staging. Show less The biggest highway project at the time in NSW, this project was part of the $1.7 billion 40 km dual carriageway Hunter Expressway, between the F3 Freeway near Seahampton and the New England Highway west of Branxton. The HEA team (RMS, Parsons Brinckerhoff, Thiess, Hyder) designed and constructed the eastern 13 km section of expressway from the Newcastle interchange on the F3 Freeway to near the proposed Kurri Kurri interchange.Sam managed the delivery of the traffic assessment, road furniture, road lighting, road safety auditing, construction traffic staging and temporary access design packages.
