  As part of the festival team, activities comprised welcoming international cultural and political delegates: hospitality - dealing with catering deliveries and general management and housekeeping of the centre; reception - greeting delegates, telephone enquiries, assisting with networking events and acting as a runner for tickets and festival reviews.

  The wide variety of venues presented ample education in this role! My responsibility was helping the Front of House Manager and acting in his absence in venues that ranged from churches and country houses to distilleries, fruit farms, and even Tantallon castle. Attending board meetings for the festival provided me with insight into the workings of festival management and gave me a broader view of what it takes to coordinate a festival.

  In the Jette Parker office, I worked on preparation for Young Artists' Week. As well as making programmes for the operas and recitals, I helped write programme notes, and acted as stage manager on the operas during the performance week. Additional responsibilities included processing applications for the Jette Parker programme and proofreading the weekly schedule.

  During the classical music festival, I was responsible for the comfort of the artists and the smooth running of events. This involved organising the transport of equipment to the correct venue, setting up the artists' space (green room and stage) and carrying out changes needed for rehearsals and performances. Planning and coordination were key in ensuring that each venue was suitably set up for artists, the programme and audience alike.Communication was essential in coordinating with the Front of House team to begin concerts and to ensure artists felt welcome and looked after in the festival.
