Bs meteorology, ba spanish literature, most of an ms in atmospheric science cloud physics, nucleation of ice crystals in cumulus clouds, air pollution source and dispersion cum laude

Activities and Societies: Airborne research in cloud physics and in air pollution dispersion. Cloud Chambers to measure the fall velocity of cloud particles as a function of size, habit, and temperature. Accompanied these measurements with studies of the theories of turbulent mixing, advection, convection, radiative transfer, atmospheric chemistry etc.

      Sept 1979 - Oct 1981
      Cloud seeding project director

I was the project manager for a two year cloud seeding project in Northern Chile, South America. I was a Radar Meteorologist and Pilot, directing cloud seeding operations from the ground based 5 cm Weather Radar. We used a Piper Aztec twin engine aircraft and when conditions were right we seeded the clouds with silver iodide, a solid crystal that is very similar to ice crystals in size and shape. I supervised a crew of 5, monitored the weather daily and made daily seeding decisions, and made monthly reports in English and Spanish. Show less

      Aug 1985 - Apr 1994
      Research scientist

My studies were in three principal areas: 1) Cloud Micro-physics and Thermodynamics - studying the nucleation of ice crystals in cumulus clouds. This is an important study since ice phase mechanisms have a huge impact on cloud development and growth of precipitation particles and on producing a charge separation in a cumulus cloud. 2) Optical Properties of Sea Ice and Snow - This is important for climate studies since a thin layer of sea ice or snow changes the reflectivity of the surface by a huge amount, and thus provides significant feedback for the climate energy balance. 3) Studied and Modeled the Planetary Boundary Layer and the fluxes of mass, shearing stress, heat, and latent heat. This is important because the Boundary Layer models are used as input for the general circulation models, and for climate modeling. Show less

      New product developer

Working on developing new products in many fields: Medical, Construction, Recreation, Automotive aftermarket, water sports, snow sports.

    • Boeing - flight safety boeing

      Nov 1997 - Feb 2002
      Flight training instructor

I was part of a team that instructed airline pilots from small countries who were getting their type rating in the Boeing 757 and 767 aircraft. I edited the Operations Manual for the 757 and 767 and became the Subject Matter Expert for Weight and Balance, Fire Protection Systems, Operational limitations, and the Flight Management Computer.

    • Shoreline community college

      Mar 2007 - Jun 2009
      Associate faculty

Developed and Taught Physics 110 - Physics of Current Issues. Conducted undergraduate lectures in college level physics with applications for current issues we face today. This was a lab course with a hands-on experimental lab every week. Used all of the available teaching aids in the smart classroom such online videos, satellite images, etc. to convey the subject matter to students. Recorded student’s progress by conducting weekly tests or quizzes. Assisted weaker students and non-English speakers about the problems they faced regarding the subject and helped them overcome them. Instructed classes of as many as 25 students; communicate with administrators and build a positive rapport with students. Show less
