Jun 2015 - Dec 2015Venue Hire and Events Assistant CoordinatorFor my industrial placement at university I volunteered as a full time assistant event and venue coordinator at the Pavilion. My role consisted of a variety of responsibilities at the seaside venue. Primarily, I assisted the Venue Hire Coordinator by liaising with clients and meeting with them to discuss the hiring of the venue, of who are more than often future newly-weds wanting to tie the knot at the beautiful Pavilion Pier. Furthermore, I was also on board with the physical set up of events from designing the floor plan on Photoshop, to tying colourful sashes around chairs, to welcoming guests as they arrive. I have also had the responsibility of running weddings on my own without the Venue Coordinator, thus allowing me to exercise my leadership skills and increase my confidence. I enjoy the variety of roles and responsibilities as it exercises other skills such as multitasking, team work as well as communication and customer service.I also helped with budgeting of events, recording costs on Microsoft Excel, and I was also in charge of receiving and noting the RSVP lists for events open to the public, such as The Penarth Chamber Music Festival as well as the Member's Summer Party.As the environment can vary from slow paced administrative work to fast paced physical set ups of events, I feel as though my experience here was extremely beneficial and I definitely learned something new every day. Feb 2016 - May 2017After completing my industrial placement at the countryside venue, I was given the opportunity to continue during my last year of study. Responsibilities and roles include managing staff, communicating with suppliers, when possible attending the couple's set up day to introduce myself and get a feel for the day, ensuring the day runs smoothly and as scheduled, and furthermore ensuring the couple and their guests are happy. On the day I am also the main point of contact for both my clients and staff/suppliers. Show less My role at Deer Park Hall was to organise, manage, and host events, mainly weddings. My responsibilities covered the whole of the planning process at the venue. From meeting a newly-engaged couple and showing them around our beautiful venue, to booking them on our calendar, to dealing with their invoices and statements, to ensuring they're up to date with their planning and details, to overseeing their set up day and ultimately hosting the wedding day. On the wedding day my roles ranged from managing the music in the Ceremony, to glass collecting for the bar and to making sure the entire wedding party are where they need to be at certain times. As well as this I book and organise conferences and meetings, ensuring the equipment and refreshments are available and set up ready for them to use. Show less
