  Senior Engineer

  I began my engineering career with the Department of Water Affaires and Forestry as an assistant engineer and through promotions was eventually promoted to senior engineer. I was involved, mainly, with maintenance engineering of major mechanical plant of the national dams and government water schemes. This included the testing, repair, refurbishment and replacement of: 1) pump sets, 2) bulk water supply systems, 3) various types of valves, 4) hydraulic systems, 5) water treatment plants, 6) sluice gates and 7) overhead cranes.   Application Engineer

  I was appointed as an applications engineer for special seals in the mechanical seal section at EagleBurgmann Seals. I provided specialised mechanical sealing solutions to clients for the sealing of dangerous and technical demanding fluids handled in machinery such as pumps, agitators, mixers etc. I developed a pressure vessel to supply barrier fluid to a mechanical seal. I managed the development from concept through to the fabrication of the prototype. I was also responsible for the production of the first unites to be sold to clients. As an initiative and collaboration with Warman Pumps, I performed an investigation to the development of a Slurry seal application for the company’s slurry pump series as an attempt to address the sealing of the pump shaft in a slurry pumping application.   Contracts Manager

  I was fortunate to be employed as a Contracts Manager for Zener Electronics Services based in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. My main function was to oversee the contracts for the provision of firefighting installations for various power plant projects in the UAE and in the Middle East. The main projects that I was involved with were for the Al Aweer Gas Power Plant, Phase 2 & 3, in Dubai. The main contractors were Arabian Bemco Contracting Co. Ltd for phase 2 and ETA for phase 3.In collaboration with our fabrication engineer I established a steel cabinet factory. I supervised the floor layout planning for the factory, focusing on effective workflow. I did the assessment for the required machinery for manufacturing and managed the procurement of the machinery. For the first year I supervised the activities and provided solutions to production problems and quality related issues. I also appointed artisans to perform the work. Once the factory was operating efficiently I handed it over to the fabrication engineer. Show less

  Chief Engineer

  As Chief Engineer I am the Head of the Mechanical Engineering section for Construction North in the Department of Water and Sanitation. I manage all the mechanical engineering for the various projects undertaken by the Construction North unit, with 30 to 120 people in the section, depending on the number of projects. I also provide engineering expertise to other directorates within the organisation. I now also manage the electrical section and all electrical activities.
