      During my employment with McTaggart & Scott I qualified as a Marine Hydraulics Engineer. My position was mainly as a turner, machining components for hydraulic equipment. I also spent some time as a fitter which involved the building and maintenance of Hydraulic machinery. Both positions involved the reading of technical drawings and working to tight tolerances in the manufacturing and assembly of components.

      Insurance Agent - During my employment with the Brittanic Assurance as an Insurance agent, my position involved the sales of the full portfolio of polices they offered to the public, which included life insurance policies, General Insurance i.e. Home an Motor, plus lump sum investments, Pensions and Mortgages. Some of the policies sold required the collection of the money at the customer’s home, on a weekly basis, which also required the balancing and accounting of this cash.

      During my time in this position , a key project I managed was the implementation of a new Real Time Passenger Information system on our vehicles, controlling the construction of the systems programs and installation of on board equipment for our then 300+ vehicles, within a project which has both local authority and European Commission funding. Other key projects included the renewing of our onboard POS equipment further to the introduction of free concessionary transport, and the effective IT programs to operate and report on the new ticketing machines. My responsibilities also included the maintenance and control of our back office reporting system, which staff used to access information on the companies passengers and revenue, a key function of these duties was continual commercial analysis of the companies on and off bus passenger and revenue trends, reporting any problems to the directors with recommendation to address the problem. From my previous position as a scheduler I also retained the responsibility of our fares data which is used on our ticket machines. I also assisted the schedules department as required, planning and scheduling our services. Scheduler/Commercial Officer (3½ years) – This position required the scheduling of our services to meet the ensure cost efficiencies wit driver duty compilation, whilst ensuring the drivers duties which were constructed meet the strict legal and traffic commissioner’s parameters, plus the construction of timetables to ensure the efficient operation of our services. I was also responsible for the company’s fares structure and pricing, implementing required revisions, controlling the files which were downloaded to the on bus ticket machines and all relevant back office programs.       I am currently managing our network departments in Scotland East and Aberdeen leading a team of 3 full time schedulers and 1 business Systems Analyst. Within this position I am responsible for the construction of our network of bus operations 350 vehicles, vehicle workings & staff duties to operate our registered timetables, with a keen focus on staff duty costs as this is one on the key cost areas in our business. My other charges include responsibility of our ticketing/Point of sale system, undertaking continuous route and depot performance reviews, plus the continuous safe working of all our staff. I also meet with staff of all levels to discuss various issues within the company, and from these meetings compile management reports and commercial proposals to improve the financial position of specific routes or business areas. This can additionally require engagement and meetings with key stakeholders such as local authorities, MP/MSP’s and industry focus groups. The key responsibilities of the department I manage is the construction and register the company’s timetables, bus and driver schedules within the strict legal requirements of PSV operations, construction of the relevant files for various computer systems which rely on the accuracy our outputs to feed systems such as ticketing equipment, Real Time Passenger Information systems on street and apps based, accountancy information to track revenue and cost factors.
