Working as a ships nurse looking after 1500 crew and 1500 passengers was an eye opening experience of a life time. I led and trained the stretcher team. I was skilled in blood taking, cannulation and X-rays. Being at sea meant we developed our own X-rays and blood results manually. Which is certainly Interesting when the ship is moving. I was part of a very small medical team & assisted in suturing, plastering, dispensing medicines and helicopter retrievals. We attended all medical emergencies aboard for both crew and passengers, this included trauma calls for adult and paediatrics and resuscitation & ventilation via our one ITU bed. Based in the Caribbean and the Med. Show less

I work as part of the ALERT HQ education team within PHT. ALERT is an internationally recognised course for the recognition and management of the deteriorating patient. Originated in Portsmouth by Professor Gary Smith we now have course centres all over the world. We deliver ALERT (for adults & obstetrics) and BEACH (Bands 1-4) courses to our staff as well as support and set up other ALERT centres. We support our staff within PHT in the management of the deteriorating patient and attend incident panels to ensure learning takes place and the cycle is closed and fed back via training. I enjoy writing new course material, lesson plans and teaching manuals. We lead on the CG50 audit and present the findings trust wide. I teach on ALS, ILS and the GIC courses. Show less As a resus officer for a large hospital trust we were responsible for delivering training to over 11000 staff both in the community and hospital settings. We ran and taught the Search and Rescue helicopter crews for 10 years which was fantastic and humbling. I taught and still teach on RCUK courses such as ILS and AlS and the GIC. I attended cardiac arrests as a team leader and as part of the general team. I love education and love to teach and always receive excellent feedback. I enjoy writing lesson plans and new course material. I worked on adverse incidents and developed tools for audit purposes. Show less
